Free Eton Fives Lesson Plans for Schools

Free Fives lessons for schoolsThree complete Fives lessons for PE teachers are free, each with phase-by-phase timings, teacher cues, drill diagrams, differentiation and an assessment tick-sheet. The two below need no login, and one more opens with a free account.

Year 7 Week 1, Learning the Basics (60 minutes, about 5 per court). The scheme opens with the side-on stance that underpins every shot, grooved on both hands in a feeding line off the top step. The same line then takes on the 100-shot challenge before the first Quick Step mini games, where pupils meet the rules and the sportsmanship the game runs on.

Year 7 Week 2, The Slap-Attack Shot (60 minutes, equal groups, about 5 per court). This second lesson of the scheme opens with a recap of the side-on basics before moving to the slap attack, played from the back of the court and aimed into the buttress. Pupils groove it on a fed ball, test it in a knock-out, then take it into Quick Step mini games and, if there is time, their first game of Fast Fives.
